Development of a clinical scoring model to predict the overall and relapse‑free survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma following a hepatectomy

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly lethal disease, and surgical resection one of the major treatment methods used. However, to date, at least best our knowledge, there no effective prognostic scoring system for overall survival (OS) relapse‑free (RFS) patients following hepatectomy. The present study developed low‑cost easy‑to‑use model based on clinicopathological characteristics with HCC assessment outcome prediction risk stratification. A total 690 undergoing surgery were included randomly divided into two cohorts (n=345). Cox regression analysis was conducted investigate association between features, patient survival. Multivariate revealed that ascites, vascular tumor thrombus, low differentiation extrahepatic metastasis independent factors OS. Extrahepatic multiple tumors predict recurrence. These variables weighted construct differentiation, (AVLEM) score cumulative incidence (CuI) aforementioned variables, classified grade 0 (CuI=0), 1 (CuI=1 OS CuI ≥1 RFS), 2 (CuI ≥2) subgroups, respectively. Kaplan‑Meier RFS differed significantly among subgroups; however, rate did not exhibit any marked differences.
